Ready for a New Exchange?

I meant to post this a few days ago, but we've had some serious medical problems at my house and I got distracted. Everything is good now, so don't worry. Who is ready for another exchange? March, April and May… hmmmm, what shall we stitch? We're just finishing up a lovely Spring Exchange, but since it's still in the teens at my house, with snow still on the ground, I'm soooooooooo wishing for Spring still -- I can't wait for the flowers and the beautiful colors they bring.

Our new exchange will be "In the Garden". This can be flowers but there is so much more in the garden that it is certainly not limited to flowers. You can do bird houses, toadstools, birds, squirrels, bunnies, butterflys, gnomes, oh my, the list is endless. picture

How about fairies in a lovely fantasy garden? Whatever you do see, or would like to see, or fantasize for your own garden. Then when you've got the design in mind, think about ways to "keep your stitching supplies" for a finish: needlebook, scissor fob, pin cushion, chatelein, floss holder, anything that can be used to help manage your supplies. Fabric is optional (yes you can use Aida). And as always anything over and above the actual stitched piece is Optional.

Ok, you have until the end of this weekpicture

Saturday, March 6, midnight US Central Standard Time to sign up. I will mail out partners before Monday, March 8 and the mailing date will be April 19th, just in time to add a little exchange piece to your 'stitching garden'.

To sign up for "In the Garden" exchange please send an e-mail to: yoyo_9203 at yahoo dot com. Please put "In the Garden Exchange" in the subject needlebook

line and please be sure to identify yourself clearly! We have a few duplicate names and I have already gotten some people confused so PLEASE let me know exactly who you are. It would be helpful if you put your full mailing address in this e-mail so I don't have to dig through my records (and that also helps to identify you).

If you would like to join our little exchange group and participate in this or future exchanges please send e-mail to: yoyo_9203 at yahoo.com. For a new member please include: 1) Your full name 2) your "screen name" 3) your full mailing address 4) an e-mail address for us to reach you, and if you like 5) your blog address. We welcome new members and would love to have you join us.

A little different 'needlebook'; pull on the bell and the needle piece slides into the flowered case. Sorry, I can’t remember where I found this one. If you know where this tutorial is please let me know and I’ll add a link here.

Some helpful links:

  • Faby Reilly: Finishing Tutorials pin cushion, scissor case, needlebook and others

  • Tintock Tap Use your own 'garden design' on a 15-sided biscornu, which is easy to do and makes a wonderful pin cushion.

  • There are more useful links in our sidebar.

I'm off to stalk the mailbox for entries. Hugs to all,

Labels

I was just trying to determine if all of our Just Nan's are sent/received...and it was pretty hard to figure out because we're not putting any labels, or we're putting incorrect labels, or we have some not quite duplicate labels on our posts.

The list of searchable labels is complied by a computer, so remember that old saying "garbage in, garbage out"? The computer is quite literal, Yo Yo is not the same as Yoyo to the machine.

Please try to use the SHOW ALL feature when you label your posts (it's just to the right side of the label box). For instance, if you receive an exchange from me and want to put my name as a label, when you click on Show All you would see "Yoyo" as a previous label and you would not be tempted to type "Yo-Yo" or "Yo Yo" or "yoyo", see what I mean, we can get a lot of labels that are really only one label. If we use that Show All feature, we just click on the previously used label and it will magically appear in the label box and make searching ever so much easier.

It would really be lovely if you could put Your Name, the Exchange Name and Your Partner's name if that has already been revealed in every post. If there is something unique about this post, then add a new label if you like, for example the type of finish or the source of the design, or the off topic subject even. Just remember labels should be 'general' and of a nature to be a useful 'search criteria' to other readers.

How are we doing

I've been having internet problems for several days, my new computer didn't want to interact with the router so could not get to the internet or if I did get there the connection would die in just a few minutes, aaarrrgggg. But I think I've fixed the problem for now so I thought I'd ask how are all the In the Style of LHN participants doing? The mailing date for this exchange has just past. If you have not mailed yet please let me know. And of course we're all looking forward to seeing your posts on the pieces received. (my e-mail is yoyo_9203 at yahoo dot com)

----------

Just as an aside, I'm a member of another exchange group that is having some terrible problems with getting/sending exchanges and it's mostly due to lack of communication, so please please tell us if there is anything going on that is useful for us to know. Not just now, but for always. It is a real bummer to the entire group when a very few members start posting complaints that could have been totally avoided with an explanatory e-mail.I think we've done pretty good while Marie was recovering and I'm sure Marie and I both want this group to continue to be a nice happy, friendly place. So don't be afraid to e-mail me and say you're running late or whatever else is on your mind. We know life sometimes happens so if you have a problem let us know and together we might be able to solve it before it becomes a problem for the whole group. And that's enough on that nasty subject.

----------

I'm also bouncing e-mails with Marie right now to decide on the next exchange, so hang in for a couple of days and we'll get it announced. And just by the way, Marie seems to be doing really well. I expect she'll be back with us full time very very soon.

I just noticed today that I have not been attending to keeping up the Membership List. I just completely forgot all about it, duh! I know we've gotten several new members in the last few weeks so I'll run through my e-mails and look up all your names and get that fixed up in a jiffy, but it wouldn't hurt for everybody to look at the membership list and put a comment on this post if you are not on it.

Happy Stitching and may your mailbox be full!!

Mailings

I believe some of you may be getting ahead of the game here. It is not unusual for 'overseas' mailings to take up to 8 weeks for delivery. That is why you are asked to mail as early as possible when sending overseas. Please understand that we were all delayed with the Just Nan Exchange due to unforeseen circumstances and be patient. I don't think we should ever wait less than six weeks and again, 8 weeks would not seem to me as very unusual. It is of course up to you when you decide to send 'replacement' exchanges, but I really believe it is too early at this point to think any of the Just Nan's are actually lost. We regret delays, but patience is the rule.

Moving Forward

Hi everybody. Just to let you know, Marie has still not fallen off the face of the earth, however she is having a few problems with her recovery. In the interests of all our members and moving forward with the current exchange she has asked for a little help, so -- here I am, head helper for a little while. I will keep you posted as I can, but for now, let's move forward. For the moment, please address all inquiries, including new member applications, to me so we can let Marie rest and fully recover (my e-mail is yoyo_9203 at yahoo dot com -- no spaces of course but don't forget the underscore in the username) Get well, Marie, the most important thing is your health!

Ok, so -- I'll coordinate but I'll need a little help from you too. I understand that for the Just Nan Exchange we have the following members signed up: Me, Marie, Bonnie, Kate, Edit & Gillie and our current mail date is June 29th. Let's say we'll get this lined up during this coming week and if we can, stay with this date. The first thing I need is all the e-mail and snail mail addresses, please send me your's at yoyo_9203 at yahoo dot com as soon as you can. I've paired everybody up on a list and just need your addresses to send the info out to you, so let's flood my e-mail box in the next couple of days.

I think it would be good if we can keep the current deadline, but I'm willing to adjust if you need it. Since we are doing a single designer this time I wonder if most of you might be almost ready by now anyway. I know my piece is stitched and has just a bit left in the finishing department to be done yet so, for me, keeping the June 29th mail-out-deadline would not be a problem. But let me know in your e-mail if you think we need to extend the deadline out a little.

If you would like to sign up for the next exchange, Little House Needleworks, send me an e-mail (yoyo_9203 at yahoo dot com) and please put "Little House Needleworks Exchange" in the subject line, please include your return e-mail address and snail mail address. (For now, let's leave the Little House Needleworks dates as they are, if we have to move out Just Nan, then we can push Little House a little.)

ALL MEMBERS: If your name is not in that little Just Nan Exchange list I would appreciate you sending me your e-mail address also, just so I have a full list.

Ok, I think that's it. If I haven't mentioned something you think I should have please leave a comment and I'll get to it asap.

Once again, "rest, heal and recover Marie", we want you back at 100% strength very very soon.
